If you are applying for a Firearm Owner Identification (FOID) card, be prepared to wait.

The Illinois State Police say they have seen an 81% increase in new FOID applications since September of last year. The result – processing applications are taking up to 116 days as opposed to the usual 30 days.

According to a statement released by the I.S.P., the Firearms Services Bureau said they are “mass hiring” analysts. 11 new analysts are currently in training, with another 8 getting ready to start.

Currently, the department is seeing around 90,000 new applications a month.
