IL Businesses Could Face Fines For Not Enforcing Mask Rule

An attempt to block Governor JB Pritzker’s new law mandating businesses enforce mask-wearing and crowd limits failed in the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules Tuesday.

The six Republicans on the panel felt the rule puts unfair pressure on business owners and would make doing business more difficult but still needed two more votes to block it.

The rule currently reads a business will first receive a warning for failure to comply. A second violation and will result in a written notice. A third infraction can mean a fine between $75 and $2,500 and a Class A misdemeanor charge

Robb Karr of the Illinois Retail Merchants Association is disappointed in today’s outcome saying the association examining its options which could possibly include legal action
