Patient Accused Of Strangling Another Patient At McFarland Mental health Center

Illinois State Police are investigating an incident between 2 patients at McFarland Mental Health Center, located at 901 Southwind Rd in Springfield.

Gary B. Schmitt has been charged and taken into custody for aggravated battery after a female patient was found unresponsive in her room on Friday, September 18.

No other information is available at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
