The little 7 -year-old was doing what little boys love to do- he was riding his bike on Hilltop Road near the Palisades subdivision when he was struck by a car. According to a Facebook post about the incident, the vehicle never stopped leaving the child to walk home injured with his broken bike

Fortunately, his injuries were not severe, and he was treated for cuts and scrapes at HSHS St John’s Hospital and was released.

Springfield police were able to track down the suspect in the case from surveillance footage obtained from a nearby location, which resulted in the arrest of 62-year-old Bernard Fokum-Dinga of Springfield.

Fokum-Dinga has admitted to hitting the boy and not stopping. He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death or injury, a Class 4 felony which can be punishable by 1-3 years in jail and up to a $25,000 fine for a first offense.
