The pandemic recovery for Sangamon County has been a little bumpy. The county has been on the warning list twice, with the potential of having to roll back to phase three of the reopening plan. On September 5, the county recorded its highest single-day count for cases at 65. But, things may finally be heading in the right direction.

The average for single day cases in Sangamon County now stands at 20, and the positivity rate is at its lowest point since the end of July, standing at 4.7%.

Yesterday the Sangamon County Department of Public Health (SCDPH) reported 12 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. 9 people are hospitalized, 416 are in isolation, and the total number of cases for the county is at 2,149

SCDPH Director Gail O’Neil warns though we can’t let our guard down and warns we may still see a spike in numbers in the next few weeks due to the Labor Day holiday weekend at the beginning of the month.
