Sangamon County voters mail in their ballots. However, this year, due to the pandemic, the county is anticipating an increase in that number.

Sangamon County Clerk Don Gray said those wishing to utilize mail-in ballots first need to request an application online at elections.il.gov. Once the form is filled out, it can either be submitted electronically or mailed to the Sangamon County Election Office.

Ballots will be mailed out starting on September 24, and everyone who correctly filled out their application should have their ballot no later than October 5. According to Vote.org, in Illinois, for your vote to count, your ballot must be postmarked no later than November 3 and must be received no later than 14 days after election day.

For those who do not wish to mail in their ballot but still want to avoid crowded polls on November 3, early voting will begin at the Sangamon County Election Office at 200 S. 9TH, Room 105 Springfield on September 24.
