Winter could be more difficult than normal for Springfield’s estimated 75 homeless people. Due to social distancing guidelines, the warming center located at 1015 East Madison St will only be able to accommodate 45 people in addition to three staff members. Last year, the maximum number of individuals the shelter could house was 64.

Other restrictions at the shelter include

  • Families are not allowed

  • Couples could find themselves separated

  • No animals are allowed

  • Individuals with severe mental health issues are not permitted
